By focusing on these concepts, we aim to promote a deeper understanding of the past and help children to develop critical thinking and analytical skills. Furthermore, our curriculum is inclusive and diverse, reflecting the experiences and contributions of people from all backgrounds and cultures. Our curriculum will help children develop an appreciation for the diversity of human experience and will foster a sense of empathy and understanding for people from different times and places.

Key Concepts:

  1. Change and continuity.

  3. Significance.
  4. Chronology.
  5. Legacy.
  6. Similarities and differences.

Implementation

  1. Establish clear learning outcomes: We establish clear learning outcomes that reflect the key concepts that are to be covered.
  2. Develop lesson plans: At Parkside we provide staff with detailed lesson plans that outline the content to be covered and the Rosenshine principles. These plans reflect the key concepts.
  3. Selecting resources: We provide teachers with carefully selected resources, including primary and secondary sources, multimedia documents and relevant text. These resources reflect experiences and perspectives of people from all backgrounds and cultures.
  4. Rosenshine principles: Rosenshine is used to emphasize clear and concise instruction. Teachers are also encouraged to make connections between prior learning and new learning.
  5. Professional development: Teachers revive a monthly staff meeting which covers the content been covered for that term.
  6. Evaluation: At the end of every unit we hold exit interviews with; teachers and children. These ensure that we are meeting our intended goals and also identify areas for improvement.
