Spring Term

Year 6 – Spring Term 2018

Love is in the Air!

Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome back! I hope that you had a lovely Christmas and that your child is rested and ready to face the challenges of this next term.

Autumn term was a great success, with particular highlights of mine being the wonderful poems the children wrote, based on their understanding of World War 1 trench warfare, their fantastic narrative writing linked to ‘The Hunger Games’ and not forgetting of course, the amazing week we had at Laches Wood. Our ‘Fabulous Finish’ to mark the end of our Autumn Topic was also a huge success: the children took part in some excellent outdoor learning and enjoyed a camp fire lunch!

There is no doubt that this next term will be challenging and hard work. It is important that your child continues to embrace the journey that will take them on to High School next September. I will be with them every step of the way to ensure that they are fully prepared for this important stage in their lives.

There will be a ‘Key Stage Two Tests Information Evening’ at some point during the first half-term. This will provide important information about the forthcoming tests and you will have opportunity to ask questions as well as find out more about the ways in which you can support your child at home. I will send a letter out to you with further details about this meeting.

I am also very much looking forward to the launch of our Spring Topic (Love is in the Air) with our Topic Launch on Friday 5th January – when the children will be doing some group artwork linked with this exciting new topic.

Our school motto, “Care to Learn and Learn to Care” provides an on-going dialogue in school and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support; Learning works best when it is a partnership between the school, the parents and the pupils.

Below (in Curriculum Information) you will find an overview of our main areas of learning this term.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs Farmer
