Year 5

Welcome to Year Five!

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am really looking forward to working with you during the next academic year. Year Five is such an exciting and important year as it is part of upper key stage 2. The experiences that your child will have this year will enable them to grow in confidence as they learn new skills, concepts and teamwork. (Especially at Standon Bowers.)

Learning is a partnership between children, family and school and is most effective when we work together. I believe passionately about learning and will ensure that the classroom reflects the ethos of the school motto, 'Care to learn and learn to care.'

Below I have included three sub headings based on the three terms that your child will be in Year Five. In each you will find as each term progresses, information about the learning that your child will be doing as well as descriptions and recounts of what the children did with photographs as well as any other important information.

If you click on the sub heading which says Autumn term 2015, you will find my welcome letter with the Autumn Term Curriculum Information. This tells you what the children will be learning as well as the expectations with homework. On a Thursday, your child will be given either one piece of Literacy or Numeracy homework and then the other Thursday the other subject will be given out. This needs to be returned by the following Monday. Your child will be expected to read and practise set spellings following specific spelling rules every night. The spelling rules will be taught on a Monday and tested on a Friday.

During the school year please look out for your child's work and any photographs as well as any important information. Once again I am looking forward to working with you and if you wish to come and see me, my door is always open.

Mrs Stanton and Mr Wild
