Autumn Term

Warwick Castle

What a super day... all the children were engrossed in the trip and demonstrated all their knowledge of castle by pointing out key features and explaining why they were there. Our day started with a birds of prey display where we met Arnie the eagle. We then hurried over to the princess tower to help save her. After she had been freed we had a tour around the grand hall looking at all the expensive decorations. We saw knights on horses and looked at lots of armour. We then had a choice; some of us went to climb the turrets whilst the others went to watch the owl display. I think the children that climbed the turrets were glad that it was home time after all those steps!  All that is left to say is what a fabulous day! The children were all a pleasure to take on the trip and were a credit to both the school and their parents. Other schools even commented on their exemplary behaviour and how smart they all looked in their uniform! Please see the photographs below!

Eight weeks in Year One!

What a busy half term we have had, it all started with a princess snoring in our castle, we then had a visit from a paper bag princess and it has ended with Robert Munsch setting us the task of writing our own version of his story The Paper bag Princess. The children have worked hard to think about using finger spaces, full stops and capital letters in their work and we have even started using connectives!
In maths we have done lots of work on understanding place value and have moved onto addition and subtraction, we have used numberlines and looked at how to partition numbers when adding and subtracting.
In our topic work we have been busy finding out about the Battle of Hastings and had great fun re enacting the battle.
Our ICT focus has led us to programming the bee bots, following and writing our own programs. After half term we will look at how to debug programs using on screen turtles.
In science we have carried out lots of investigations about our senses, we have had to find results to questions such as 'If you are the eldest in the class are you the tallest?
Alongside all of this we have explored how people belong to different groups and faiths and how they show that they belong.
What a busy half term we have had, all that is left to say is a huge 'Well Done' to the children, they have worked extremely hard and have settled very well into Year One. I hope you have a restful half term and look forward to reading the children's diaries when they return after the holiday.
Thank you for your continued support.
