Friday 22nd January

Today at Nursery we are building dens.

There is a real sense of adventure in building and hiding out in a den, experiencing independence away from adults. A secret den gives children privacy, it is a child's own hideaway place to create in their style and to go to unaccompanied, with their own rules, but in a secure environment.

Cardboard boxes are great to build dens and will often be used as the frame, to which children will then attach sheets and blankets on the outside to make it more decorative.

Don't forget to share your Den on Learning Book and let us know about your adventures you've had in your Den.  The opportunities are endless such as have a picnic with your teddies, read your stories using torches or fairy lights, read the story We are going on a Bear hunt and act it out...... Cant wait to see your adventures, have fun.

Here are some developmental steps for you to use as a rough guide depending on your child's age in months.

22-36 months Beginning to make believe by pretending

30-50 months Uses available resources to create props to support role play.
