The Rising Stars were challenged by the Gruffalo this week to learn to rhyme before poor Freddie Fox would be lost forever! The children played lots of rhyming games and became rhyming experts! Luckily, they were able to save Freddie Fox from the clutches of the Gruffalo! The children then went on to paint amazing Gruffalo pictures and even wrote letters to the Gruffalo and Freddie Fox in their own choice time. It was a pleasure to see so many children writing independently and demonstrating a passion for writing!

In numeracy this week, the Rising Stars were learning all about the numbers 1,2, and 3! They are now number heroes and are able to represent the numbers using numicon, numerals and a variety of objects. Well Done everyone, we are super proud of you all!

We are sure that next week the Rising Stars will knock our socks off once more.

This week the Rising Stars have been number detectives! We have been looking at numbers 1,2,3 and ways that we can represent them. We used numicon, numerals, and an array of objects to represent these numbers. The Rising Stars went on number hunts around the classroom to find a certain number of objects. They went fishing for numbers, they had to round up animals and put them back into their numbered enclosures and even had to use their new number knowledge to follow a recipe to create a magic potion!

This week, a mystery visitor sneaked into the Rising Stars' classroom and turned it upside down. They left several clues such as a giant footprint, some purple prickles and terrible tusks! It was up to the detectives to investigate and predict who this mystery visitor was and what they wanted? The Rising Stars thought that it could have been a dinosaur, a giant or even a Gruffalo who crashed into our classroom! Later on in the week some animals came to visit us and said that they were friends of our mystery visitor. They brought with them a note from the mysterious figure which challenged the Rising Stars to do some amazing writing in exchange for a very special treat. Without hesitation the Rising Stars accepted the challenge and rose to the occasion. We cannot wait to meet our mystery guest and impress them with our amazing writing. I wonder what next week will bring?

We have had such a fantastic week back with the Rising Stars team! It has been lovely to have the whole class together at last. We have started our new nocturnal animals topic and we have learnt some new words such as nocturnal and diurnal. The Rising Stars demonstrated some super knowledge about a variety of animals, which we were very impressed with. We have also started our phonics lessons and have begun listening for the initial sound in words. Overall, the Rising Stars have had a fantastic start to the year and we look forward to the fun to come!
