Thursday 23rd April 2020 - Today I'd like you to focus on enjoying reading a book. It would be helpful if you could try to read a chapter, to then write a short synopsis about what you've read. This means perhaps a paragraph about the characters, the story setting and the plot of the story. You might want to predict what is going to happen next? Based on what you've read, would you recommend the book? Why? Why not?

Wednesday 22nd April 2020 - Earth Day Activity

Friday 3rd April 2020 - Let's put your letter writing skills to the test. I'd like you to write a letter to a friend or addressed to our whole class to cheer them up if they are feeling worried or lonely during this strange time. What have we all got to be thankful for? What could we be doing with our time at home to make the most of the situation? Think about the rules and tools for an informal letter before you start, in particular the elements of Year 5 grammar. If you would like to word process them and email them to us, we could send some out to cheer each other up, or take a photo like I have of this example letter.

Thursday 2nd April 2020 - I thought we'd have a look at rhyming couplets for our poetry today! I can't wait to read what you come up with!! If you're able to, why not record yourself reading your poem aloud to send to me?!! (I miss you!!)

Year 5 Writing Mat - Use this information as a toolkit to support your writing!

Why not keep a diary of your experiences during this time?

It is very unusual for schools to close, alongside shops and restaurants etc. COVID-19 is affecting people all over the world.

You could write about what you have done each day, describe how you are feeling or ask questions that you might have.

You could begin your diary like this:

Dear diary,

You'll never believe what's happening in the world right now?! It's just crazy (and a little scary if I'm honest)! Even the experts aren't quite expert enough!! But everyone is certainly trying their best and pulling together!

Another day might start like:

Day 3 in isolation...I woke up and joined in with Joe Wicks on youtube again doing his P.E. lesson. It's a great way to start the day and helps me to feel really positive!

You could keep your diary in a Word document on the computer, the home learning book that I gave to you or however you like!

I'd love to read what you've put!
