W/c 16th November

Thursday 19th November

This week we are starting a new literacy unit. We will be working towards writing a setting description about the woods. Before we get to this stage we will be immersing the children in the world of senses.

Today we would like you to try foods blindfolded. Can you guess what you are eating?

Put some objects into a bag/box can you guess what is inside using your sense of touch? You can use toys, jelly, cotton wool, vegetables or anything that you have around the house.

Can you use your sense of smell to figure out what foods are in front of you? You could use oranges, coffee, lemons, toast etc.

Can you play i spy and use your sense of sight to find obscure objects around your house?

Can you listen to this video and guess what is making each sound?

Friday 20th November

You will need these objects before the lesson begins.

Do not show your child these objects.

Crunchy leaves

Orange or something with a strong smell

the attached blurred picture of an owl

bark/twigs

Allow your child to listen to the crunch of the leaves, smell the orange, look at the owl and touch the twigs. After they have done this they can draw and write down their guesses.
