Please watch this video to get your maths brains working!
I am thinking of a shape with 3 straight sides and 3 corners. What shape am I thinking of? Can you think of a shape and give us clues to guess it?
Today we are going to look at the composition of 4 and 5.
Ask your child to recap which numbers make the numbers 1,2 and 3?
Can you gather 4 items from around your house? - nothing fragile please for this activity.
Can you throw the items into a specific spot such as the sofa, into a hoola hoop or on the table? How many objects land in the target area and how many land outside this?
E.g If 3 land inside the target zone and 1 lands outside the target zone – we know that 3 add 1 equals 4. Can you write the number sentence for each variation you get? E.g 3+1=4 etc
Do you ever get 0 objects in or outside the target zone?
Now do this activity again using 5 objects.
Grab 5 objects from around the house. Ask your child to count the objects to ensure that there are 5. Now ask them to close their eyes and take some of the objects away out of sight. Can they work out how many are missing?
Have another look at the book from yesterday. Your task today is to draw 4 of the fish's wishes and try and write out the wish below each one. Use the phonics mat below to help you. The worksheet attached does not need to be printed as your child can complete the task on a piece of paper.
E.g of writing - dependent on your child's level of confidence when writing you can choose whether they write in sentences or captions.
The fish wished for a horse.
Today, we would like you to do some research about seals. Please allow your child to navigate the webpages and use the mouse and keyboard where possible. We would like you to follow along with this video to draw a seal. Around your seal can you write some facts about seals. You could include...
What do they eat?
Any interesting facts about their features/appearance?
What is a baby seal called?
