INTRODUCING... PARKSIDE'S VERY OWN SCARECROW FESTIVAL! We are SO excited to announce a brand-new Parkside tradition for our community! During the week beginning 19th October, we're inviting families, neighbours and members of our local community to get creative and make a scarecrow for your front garden, porch or the front of your house! There are no rules when it comes to your scarecrow make it spooky, silly, funny, creative, traditional... or completely bonkers! The more imaginative, the better! How will it work? We'll create a Parkside Scarecrow Festival map, highlighting the addresses taking part. During the festival week, everyone will be able to explore the area, visit the scarecrows and enjoy seeing all the amazing creations. At the end of the week, you'll even have the chance to vote for your favourite scarecrow! We would absolutely LOVE to see as much of our community getting involved as possible. This is a wonderful opportunity to get creative together, meet neighbours, have some fun and start a brand-new Parkside tradition that everyone can enjoy! Would you like to take part? And just like that... our first day in Reception is done! We are so proud of how bravely our little ones came into school this morning and how well they have settled into their new surroundings. From exploring their new classroom, to making friends and joining in with activities, they have had such a fantastic first day! What an amazing start to their school journey! Tomorrow evening (Wednesday 12th August) the UK will experience its most dramatic solar eclipse since 1999! Safety First: - Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye. - Normal sunglasses, cameras and binoculars will not protect your eyes. - Only view the sun directly if you have certified eclipse glasses. No Glasses? Try these fun science hacks: The Colander Trick: Hold a kitchen colander over the pavement. The holes will project dozens of tiny, crescent-shaped shadow eclipses onto the ground. Nature's Projector: Stand under a leafy tree and look at the ground. The tiny gaps between the leaves act like pinhole cameras, creating mini eclipse shadows everywhere. Make a Pinhole Card: Poke a tiny hole in a piece of cardboard with a pin. Hold it up to the sun and look at the shadow it casts on a white sheet of paper behind it. Parents, snap a faceless picture of your children trying out these shadow tricks and share them in the comments tomorrow! #proudtobeparkside
